September 4th "BEARFEST" a Success

A big BEARAT salute to the estimated 150 community members who attended our BEARFEST BBQ and corn roast fundraiser on Sunday September 4 at the ClarMill Hall in Plevna.

The event kicked off with entertainment by Roger & The Jam Band while the Bar-B’s were warming up. An informative information session followed with brief presentations given by BEARAT Co-chair Dan Carruthers, North Frontenac Mayor Ron Higgins and John Laforet of Broadview Strategy Group.

Shortly thereafter, the crowd was entertained with toe-tapping tunes by the Pickled Chicken String Band of Denbigh. Meanwhile outdoors, several guests were engaged in spirited contests of horseshoes, washer toss, bocci ball, Jenga and tether ball in between a delicious sampling of fresh cooked burgers, sausages, corn on the cob and cold drinks (A big thank-you to Guy and Melinda Lefebvre who donated all of the food!)

All in all, the event was an unqualified success. Food and sign sales and individual donations at the event totaled $3300 at the day’s end. An additional $2300 was donated in person and online over the course of the two days following.  100% of these donations will go towards helping to pay for legal and consulting fees during the fight against LRP II Industrial Wind Turbine proposals in our community.

Thank you to all, this was a great show of community support. Check out some photos from the event below.
