The townships of Addington Highlands and North Frontenac are the proposed locations for one of Canada's largest wind farms. BEARAT, hopes to help stop this from becoming a reality.

Bon Echo Area Residents Against Turbines is a non-profit group that aims to lobby, protest and educate the public about the hazards of the introduction of industrial wind turbines into these townships. Read the latest news.

We are pleased to announce that none of the projects proposed for Addington Highlands or North Frontenac (Northpoint I, Northpoint II and the Denbigh wind project) have received contract awards under LRP I (2015). The hard work of community members, BEARAT members, Mayor Higgins and the North Frontenac Council have no doubt impacted this decision. The time, donations, letters, political pressure and support did not gone unnoticed.

While this announcement is a win for our communities, the government continues to pursue unnecessary, expensive and destructive wind energy projects in a way that does not respect Ontario’s ratepayers, rural citizens or local communities. We have been able to keep these projects from proceeding in our communities for at least another year. However, there are LRP processes planned for both 2016 and 2017. Work must begin almost immediately to ensure the proponents cannot simply recycle their last proposals for a win in either of these procurements.
